A MIUI update based on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware for the Xiaomi Mi 4 is in its final testing stages and will start rolling out soon.

As per an image uploaded by Xiaomi's MIUI operations manager, the Android Marshmallow will be arriving soon to the Xiaomi Mi 4, to be followed by updates for Mi 3 and Mi Note. The image was uploaded on the Chinese mobile site, Weibo, and shows a screen capture of the mobile phone update page.

The update, with a memory size of 518 megabytes, is given the name MIUI 5.12.24 and is based on the Android Marshmallow. The update follows the Xiaomi-created ROM based on the Android Lollipop firmware, the MIUI 7, which according to the MIUI website brings 30 percent faster system response and 10 percent longer battery life.

MIUI 7 also introduced a range of new features like XXL-sized text options, Child mode, A smart baby album creator that groups photos that the phone detects are those of kids, Showtime and an upgraded notification management system.

The Xiaomi Mi 4 was launched last July 2014 running on a Android Kitkat 4.4.3 mobile OS initially. Earlier in October, Xiaomi replaced that with the MIUI 7. The handset packs a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a 1080 x 1920 pixel screen resolution, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 3 GB of RAM.

The smartphone also sports a 13 megapixel back-facing camera with 1/3" sensor size, 1.12µm pixel size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama and HDR. The front-facing camera has 8 megapixels. The camera is also loaded with an IMX 214 stacked sensor built by Sony, and allows for 4k resolution video recording.

The Xiaomi Mi 4's pricing currently starts at Rs. 14,999 or about $226. There is also currently a separate mobile OS ROM based on Microsoft's Windows 10 mobile, for Xiaomi users who would prefer an experience aside from the Android-based one.
