Windows has released a new firmware update for the company's latest smartphone flagships, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL.
According to a post on Microsoft's forums, the mobile OS update is now available via an over-the-air update, but is limited only to a few service providers. A few of the key highlights of the update include improvements to stability and performance, support improvement on SD memory card and auto display brightness settings, a fix for a bug in the camera that caused noisy images in low-light conditions and a fix for a bug on 4k videos that caused stripes to show up while playing back clips recorded.
The Microsoft Lumia 950 sports a 5.2-inch Quad HD display with a 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor. The Lumia 950 XL has a bigger display, measuring 5.7 inches, but has the same pixel resolution, and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor.
Both handsets have a 20-megapixel back-facing camera with f/1.9, 26mm, Carl Zeiss optics, OIS, autofocus and triple-LED RGB flash. The front-facing camera has 5 megapixels.
The Lumia 950 and 950 XL are currently the only handsets to run on Windows 10 Mobile, which brings features like access to Microsoft Edge, a new internet browser to replace Internet Explorer, Microsoft Continuum, new user interface designs, a new keyboard and access to select Android and iOS apps.
For those who own a Lumia 950 or 950 XL device, to check whether their handsets are getting the new Windows 10 mobile build, they can head over to Settings > Update & security > Phone update > Check for updates.
The post further adds that the Lumia 550 has yet to receive a firmware update. No news has yet been given on when other Microsoft devices will be getting the Windows 10 mobile update, but it is likely that Insiders will be getting it on the early part of 2016.
