"Stranger Things" season 2 has added three new cast members who will be at the core of events happening in the town of Hawkins. The return of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) in season 2 has also been confirmed.

It was previously reported by The Hollywood Reporter that there will be two new cast members added to "Stranger Things" season 2. First is Sadie Sink who will portray Max, and Dacre Montgomery who will portray Max's older brother, Billy.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the cast has added three new members who are expected to play big roles in the events to come in "Stranger Things" season 2.

Linnea Berthelsen has been cast as the previously announced character named Roman, and according to Netflix, she is "an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab..." It is possible that Roman was one of the young women who was experimented on at the lab, similar to what happened to Eleven.

A character named Bob Newby will be played by Sean Astin, who also portrayed Samwise "Sam" Gamgee in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Newby is described as "a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack."

It appears that Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) will be replaced by a new evil scientist named Dr. Owens, to be played by Paul Reiser. Dr. Owens is described as "a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a 'clean-up' assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year."

Aside from new characters joining in "Stranger Things" season 2, the return of the season 1 heroine – Eleven – has been confirmed. In an interview with Steve Weintraub from Collider, producer Shawn Levy confirmed that Eleven is part of the cast for "Stranger Things" season 2 and that a lot of other sources have leaked the information before they could announce it themselves.

"We are filming in Atlanta again. I feel like that's how the Millie Brown thing leaked because someone saw her trick or treating in Atlanta. I was so bummed about that because Netflix had this really clever idea of taking a picture at our table read last week and posting it upside down, which is what we did. But then like two days before our clever idea got to debut, a bunch of places were reporting that Millie was gonna be a part of Season 2," explained Levy.

"Stranger Things" season 2 will debut in 2017 on Netflix.
