"Sherlock" season four is still probably a long way from returning to television, but new rumours indicate that the show will return on January 2017.

In a press conference, Paula Kerger told the press that the next season of the hit comedy drama series will air on January of next year. "We do have the next Sherlock announced, coming up about a year from now," said president Paula Kerger according to Independent UK. "As you know, Benedict has gotten to be somewhat popular since we began our work with him and he very much wants to continue with Sherlock.

Right after the thrilling season special of the series entitled "The Abominable Bride," fans had a mix of emotions feeling both thrill from the great storyline, but also a sense of frustration from the lack of information on when the next season would arrive and what fans can expect.

"Sherlock" is a modern adaptation of the popular novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The stars of the film are Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock, and Martin Freeman, who portrays Dr. Watson.

Christian Post states that while it is too early to conclude that the show will indeed return on January of 2017, it's safe to assume that production will start this year and that some trailers will be released before 2016 ends as well.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, show creator Steven Moffat shared that the next season will be a little bit darker than the previous seasons, but will still maintain a fun tone. "Chickens come home to roost," Moffat said last year to Entertainment Weekly. "It's dark in some ways - obviously it's great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that - but there's a sense of things coming back to bite you."

Sherlock is a co-production between the BBC and WGBH Boston.
