"Quantico" season 2 is currently tackling the issue of terrorism, but it might evolve into something more relevant and current in its second half of episodes. Meanwhile, there are speculations that Priyanka Chopra – who plays the lead, Alex – might be taking a break from the series after season 2.

"Quantico" season 2 follows the story of Alex in two timelines, one where she is training for the CIA and the other where she is trying to combat a terrorist threat in New York City.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Joshua Safran said that their focus on terrorism will shift to another political issue soon. Safran shared that the catalyst for their theme shift is Republican candidate Donald Trump winning as the president of the United States.

"The day after Election Day, we shut down talking about the episode we were on and just talked globally about the show. It was already kind of in line with current events, unfortunately, and we just made sure to ask, 'How do we make sure this is a show that reflects how the world could and should be, and maybe not the way that it is?'" explained Safran.

"In a time of next-to-no hope, it's important to reflect hope. We were planning that anyway, but we're making sure to push that even futher," he added.

Safran and his team are planning to shift the show's  focus on Claire Haas (Marcia Cross) since she has become the president of the country in the show. Safran also wants to continue emphasizing the show's multicultural cast and perspectives, because he wants to acknowledge the political influence happening right now of trying to hinder inclusivity of different cultures in the nation.

Meanwhile, there have been rumors that Chopra will be taking a break from "Quantico."

Game N Guide previously reported that Chopra might be looking to develop her Hollywood career. But shifting her focus to the movie industry will mean that filming and production for "Quantico" will be pushed back, and that the show's third season might air in 2018 instead of earlier. However, there has been no official news regarding Chopra's break from the series.

"Quantico" season 2 returns on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
