The upcoming Bible-based series "Of Kings and Prophets" seems to be aiming to match the success of "Game of Thrones" by, well, becoming like "Game of Thrones."

In various statements given by staff and members of the production team behind ABC's upcoming action drama, they gave many references to George R. R. Martin's masterpiece.

"It's suspenseful. It's extraordinarily violent. It's sexual. And it's a power struggle between two men. We don't view this as a revisionist history nor do we view it as a literal translation. We've sought to make the show modern...This is a non-dragon version of Game of Thrones," says executive producer Chris Brancato in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Also when further asked by Entertainment Weekly how many crew members are involved in the creation of the series, the producer responded by saying the production is as large as "Game of Thrones," and also said that the plot has been reworked just the same way "Thrones" did to theirs.

The series by ABC follows the stories as told in the Books of Samuel found in the Bible, and tells of the feud between David and King Saul. The show has been said to be a spiced up version of the story and will include sexual references and violence in a way that other Bible movies and series have never done before.

Ray Winstone stars in the upcoming series as Saul, the king of Israel who tries to kill David, and Olly Rix will be playing David, Saul's successor. Other cast reported include Simone Kessell, James Floyd, Haaz, Sleiman, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, and Jeanine Mason.

Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, co-writers of Bible-based bigs screen film "Exodus: of Gods and Kings," take the lead as creators and writers of the upcoming series. According to Deadline, Brancato has also expressed the team's eagerness to stay faithful to the translations given by the Bible.

"Of Kings and Prophets" is set to premiere on March 8, 2016 on ABC.
