NES Classic Edition latest news: Nintendo discontinues item due to stock issues

Nintendo has made the decision to discontinue the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition because of stock issues. Meanwhile, the remaining stocks of the Nintendo Classic Edition might have an increase in price due to limited numbers.

Released by Nintendo Co. in November 2016, the NES Classic Edition console is a mini prototype of the popular vintage game system that was a hit back in 1985. The revived Nintendo console also featured 30 classic games such as "Donkey Kong," "Pac-Man," and "Super Mario Bros," Market Watch confirmed.

The updated Nintendo game console also has 8-bit graphics, which caused long-time gamers to feel nostalgia. It also provided something new to the younger generations as well.

Although the NES Classic Edition console became very popular since its launch, Nintendo Co. has decided to discontinue the device because of stock issues.

A spokesperson from Nintendo Co. shared in an interview with IGN, "NES Classic Edition wasn't intended to be an ongoing, long-term product. However, due to high demand, we did add extra shipments to our original plans."

Nintendo said that they will no longer produce the NES Classic for North America, including the NES Classic Controller. In regards to accessories, owners of the NES Classic will have to rely on their manufacturers. The company will be shipping out their last remaining stock throughout the month of April.

"Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize," the spokesperson said.

Now that there are limited stocks of the NES Classic Edition console in the market, there might be an increase in price depending on the remaining stores that carry it. Upon launch, the retro game console was priced at around $60. However, it started being sold at $300 on eBay since Nintendo Co. announced the discontinuation.
