As Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) exits Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) gets promoted to replace Tony as senior field agent. Also, DiNozzo might just come back to attend McGee's wedding with Delilah Fielding (Margo Harshman) in season 14.
In "NCIS" season 13, DiNozzo was hit with grief when an explosion hit and killed the woman he loves, Ziva David (Cote de Pablo). He was able to gain justice for her death and, at the same time, gain a daughter named Tali. She is her daughter with Ziva, and now, he is all Tali has after her mother died in the explosion. This pushes DiNozzo to leave NCIS and to live a life searching for answers, in Israel and Paris, which will fulfill both his and his daughter's lives.
Come season 14, Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) will have a hard time looking for DiNozzo's replacement. As TV Line reports, Gibbs will ask help from NCIS Special Agent Alex Quinn (Jennifer Esposito) to fill in his team. As it turns out, Gibbs asked Quinn for replacements but ended up rejecting all eight referrals because they weren't good enough. With these turn of events, executive producer Garry Glasberg said that McGee will be promoted as Senior Special Agent to be the new DiNozzo in the NCIS team, according to TV Guide's report.
As for Gibbs, he will have a new roommate. The injured FBI Special Agent Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano) will be living with Gibbs while he's taking the time to recover from his injuries. Glasberg states on CBS website, "When people experience a severe trauma that leaves them injured and in need of rehab, they face some mammoth hurdles in the future. Often, injured characters on TV instantly recover. Fornell will have a more realistic road ahead of him."
Lastly, McGee is going to get married next season as well. McGee will be popping the question to Delilah on the upcoming season, and it is most likely that the wedding will be part of season 14. This leads to speculations that DiNozzo might just come back one last time to NCIS, to be there for his old pal McGee on his special day.
"NCIS" season 14 will premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS.
