LG news: A new curved smartphone is now in the works

The trend of bended and curved phones continues to grow in popularity amongst phone builders, and LG plans to take curved phones to a whole new level.

Famous tech leaker, Evan Blass, tweeted last Dec. 17 saying that LG is planning to create a new curved smartphone that will flex over the top instead of on on the sides. Bless goes on to say in his tweet that the phone is already "in the works."

Tech Radar states that this could mean that the curved LG handset in the works will wrap all the way to the top to create a whole new screen. This extra screen could be a handy spot to display alerts, notifications, time and maybe even battery life.

Reports state that this seems like a move to rival LG's Korean competitor, Samsung, who has released the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, a variant of the Galaxy S6 flagship handset that curves along the sides. The curved edges allows displaying alerts and swipe through menus.

Latin Post adds that the design, though crazy and innovative, could pose as a difficult challenge for phone casing manufacturers to design accessories and screen protectors for.

However, it seems to be more likely that LG would develop more curved phones to follow up to LG G Flex 2, a smartphone with a 5.5-inch curved full-HD display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. However, the curved phone in development is not the LG G Flex 3.

According to a Chinese website, Daum, LG will not be revealing a successor for the G Flex 2 this upcoming CES 2016, which is only weeks away from now.

In other related news, the LG 2016 flagship, the LG G5, will most likely be unveiled in late April 2016, which is usually the time of the year when LG releases its annual flagship to the general public.
