The upcoming Marvel series will premiere in March 2017. "Game of Thrones" star Finn Jones will portray the protagonist named Danny Rand.

Netflix announced that the upcoming Marvel series "Iron Fist" is set to debut on the network this coming March 17, 2017, while the first trailer of "Iron Fist" was shown at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con last July.

According to the official synopsis released by Den of Geek, "Danny Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years, trying to reconnect with his past and his family legacy. He fights against the criminal element corrupting his world around him with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist."

Marvel announced that Finn Jones — the actor who portrays Ser Loras Tyrell in the acclaimed HBO series "Game of Thrones" — will be portraying Danny Rand in "Iron Fist." According to executive producer Scott Buck, they chose Jones because he had the ability to portray the complicated character of Danny Rand.

Buck explained that since Danny Rand is a "very complicated" person, they had to find an actor who could portray all the nuances required for the titular character. Danny Rand is a billionaire who lives in New York, but he's also a Buddhist monk that knows martial arts. It turns out that Danny is also a superhero, but he's still trying to figure out all the different aspects of his strange life. Buck added that Finn can play all the different sides of Danny in "such an honest, revelatory way," and that after seeing him, he knew he would be the perfect actor to portray Danny.

Another cast member of "Iron Fist" is David Wenham, who will play Harold Meachum, according to Deadline. Meachum is described as a heartless and powerful leader in the corporate scene who was once partners with Rand's parents when they were still alive. No other details about Meachum's role in Rand's life have been released, but his character will unfold throughout the "Iron Fist" series.

"Iron Fist" is set to debut on March 17, 2017 on Netflix.
