The fifth season of "House of Cards" sees the return of Tom Yates (Paul Sparks), who might begin another affair with the first lady, Claire (Robin Wright). Meanwhile, Will (Joel Kinnaman) and Hannah (Dominique McElligot) continue to fight the Underwoods for the White House.

"House of Cards" returns with their fifth season on Netflix by the end of May, and as seen from the first images of the new season from Collider, Frank (Kevin Spacey) and Claire Underwood will be back on their feet, and they will be showing a united front.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Melissa James Gibson, together with executive producer Frank Pugliese, shared that Frank and Claire "negotiate their relationship."

"They need each other as much as ever and are constantly navigating the other's character," Pugliese added.

Although the couple keeps a united front, Claire might be steering away from her attentions again this season since Gibson confirms that Tom will be returning. When asked about whether there will be any sexual tension between the two, Gibson teased, "I think that energy cannot be denied. This season does not resist it."

Meanwhile, Will and Hannah Conway will be continuing their fight against the Underwoods to gain control over the White House. However, the Conways might find themselves at a low point this season, as Gibson hints a big fall for the two.

"This season delves into the cost of ambition and the repercussions for their relationship," Gibson revealed. Even though "House of Cards" season 5 was already written before the elections for the President of the United States, Pugliese teases that viewers might witness the actual outcome on the show.

Also returning to the show is Frank's chief of staff, Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), and Claire's adviser, Leann Harvey (Neve Campbell). The two characters will be "frenemies" once more on the show as they compete with each other.

"House of Cards" season 5 premieres on Tuesday, May 30, on Netflix.
