'Half Life 3' release date not end of January

Rumors of "Half Life 3" being unveiled in a Vive-sponsored event in Seattle this coming Jan. 28, 2016 have been shot down, leaving "Half Life" fans once again wondering when and if a third installation to the first-person shooter game will even happen.

In a tweet posted by Valve writer Chet Faliszek, who has worked on both "Half Life" and "Portal" games, rumours of "Half Life 3" making an appearance in an event to showcase third-party titles for the upcoming HTC Vive were denied, hitting two rumours with one stone.

One rumour being that "Half Life 3" could very much be at gamers' doorsteps and the other rumour being that "Half Life 3" will be a virtual reality-based game.

"Just to clarify for everyone, the content showcase is about highlighting select 3rd party experiences. Valve is not showing content there," Faliszek said in his tweet.

However, a new leak has come out online, once again spurring the interest of fans about a possible "Half Life 3" unveiling. An anonymous user on website Pastebin claims to have inside knowledge on the upcoming title. "Half-Life 2 Episode 3 has been cancelled," the post said. "The project has turned into a full fledged title confirmed to be Half-Life 3. Half-Life 3 is the official title and has turned very well into a standalone game. Well sort of. It's complicated."

Talks of a "Half Life 3" have been going around since late 2007, and fans are still eager to see it come to pass. "Half Life" is a science fiction first-person shooter action game created by Valve for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, OS X and Linux.

The game follows the story of a theoretical physicist Gordon Freeman, who survives an experiment gone wrong in the Black Mesa Research Facility, a fictional setting much like Area 51.

The most recent release of the game is "Half-Life 2: Episode Two," which was released in Oct. 10, 2007.
