Rihanna will be joining the fifth and final season of "Bates Motel" as Marion Crane. The final installment of the series featuring Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) will veer away from the original movie the series was adapted from titled, "Psycho."

Marion Crane is the fictional character from the film "Psycho" which premiered in 1960, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. In the film adaptation, Marion checks in at Bates Motel after running away with a huge sum of money she stole from a wealthy customer that came into the real estate office where she worked at. Norman becomes attracted to her and she gets killed by Norman's alternate personality — "Mother" — because of jealousy.

TV Line confirms that Rihanna has been cast as Marion Crane and since "Bates Motel" is on its final season, Marion's introduction will be something big to the story's turn of events. According to executive producer Carlton Cuse, "Bates Motel" season 5 will have its own version of the "Psycho" story.

"We will be colliding with certain events in the narrative of the film, but it would be boring to just recreate 'Psycho,'" Cuse explained.

One element that will bring a twist to the final season of "Bates Motel" is the entrance of a character named Madeleine Loomis — to be played by "House of Cards" star Isabelle McNally — reports TV Line . Madeleine did not exist in the original film, but her last name is identical to a character from "Psycho." In the original film, Sam Loomis was Marion's boyfriend.

The role of Madeleine's character is still unclear, but her "striking resemblance" to Norma (Vera Farmiga) will surely rattle Norman in his denial of his mother's death. It is speculated that Madeleine could possibly be Sam's sibling or his young wife.

It was recently reported that the character of Sam is already in the process of being cast. Although they haven't placed an actor yet, they are looking for "an edgy hunk" who can play a "sexy devil" worth stealing millions for.

"Bates Motel" season 5 premieres March 2017 on A&E.
