Google started to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for two Moto smartphones this week.

The mobile phone manufacturer made the Android update announcement on their official Twitter account on Feb. 12, saying that Android 5.0 Lollipop can now be downloaded for Moto Maxx and Moto E in selected markets.

Android Authority reported that Moto Maxx owners living in Mexico and Brazil can start downloading the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system under Motorola's soak test. Meanwhile, the Moto E owners in India and Brazil can also download the new Android update under the trial period.

Motorola decided to conduct the soak test so that they can determine if there are still some issues to fix before ultimately rolling out the Lollipop update for all markets in the future.

According to the official blog post from Motorola, "Lollipop will first come to Moto Maxx and Moto E smartphones bought at retail. As we normally do, we're starting by rolling out the upgrade to smaller test groups, and if the results are strong, we will expand the software to more phones."

Moto E will completely benefit from the Android 5.0 Lollipop update since it is a requirement for downloading the Motorola Update Services app offered by the Google Play Store.

Earlier this year, Motorola released the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for some of their other devices, including the first- and second-generation Moto G in India and the second-generation Moto G in the U.S. markets, as well as the second-generation Moto X.

Motorola also confirmed their plans to roll out the software update for the first-generation Moto X, but there is no concrete release date yet for it since the company is facing hardware issues because the device is equipped with an earlier edition of the Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.
