Android 6.0 update news: Moto G 3rd gen starts receiving Android Marshmallow

 Motorola

When Motorola laid out its schedule for the Android Marshmallow release back in October, the first ones set to receive were the premium flagships. Now that the Moto X series has already gotten the Android 6.0 update, users of the third-gen Moto G reported receiving over-the-air update notifications on their devices.

GSM Arena reported that the Android M over-the-air notifications were rolled out to the unlocked SIM-free versions of the Moto G 2015 (model XT1540) in the U.S. and Canada. According to the screenshots of the update notification, the Android M update came in as a 2-GB download, and the software version was updated to 24.11.25.en.US.

The industry follower added that the Android 6.0 update for the third-gen Moto G integrates Google's security patches up to December 1.

In addition, the Android 6.0 build that was rolled out by Motorola is closer to the stock version released by Google, so Moto G users will be able to see all the changes and improvements that are available for the new Android platform, including the Google Now on Tap and Doze features, as well as updated apps permissions.

According to Gadgets 360, Motorola-specific updates that came with the official Android 6.0 OTA build include removal of redundant Motorola enhancements such as the Moto Assist feature, which resembles the new Doze option.

Meanwhile, for those who have yet to receive the Android M notification, Android Central mentioned that third-gen Moto G users can also check software updates manually, through the System Updates tab, which can be found on the Settings > About Phone option.

The Android 6.0 update for the third-gen Moto G was a surprise for some since the model itself has just been recently released. Motorola came out with the 2015 Moto G last July, and it was released with a recent and updated Android 5.1 Lollipop.
