Netflix will be releasing a series adaptation of the 2007 New York best selling book "13 Reasons Why" by Jay Asher by next year. The series will be produced by Disney star and singer Selena Gomez.

The series adaptation of the book "13 Reasons Why" is among Netflix's list of series that will debut in 2017, according to Cheat Sheet. However, there has been no confirmation about the show's exact release date.

"13 Reasons Why" is a book about a girl who committed suicide and recorded thirteen tapes, each of which is dedicated to every person who contributed to her making a final decision to take her life. Thirteen people in the girl's life contributed to her tragic death, and she has dedicated 13 tapes for all of them.

The tapes have been passed around to the 13 people chosen by the girl, and one of them is the protagonist in the story, who will find out about his unexpected contribution in the girl's tragic suicide.

The girl who committed suicide is Hannah Baker, who will be played by Katherine Langford, while the protagonist in the story is a boy named Clay Jensen, who will be played by Dylan Minnette, according to Deadline. After receiving the tapes and gradually uncovering the story behind Hannah's suicide, he soon refers to them as Baker's dozen.

The series is produced by Disney star Selena Gomez. After Gomez finished reading "13 Reasons Why," she collaborated with her mother Mandy Teefey and producer Kristel Laiblin, who then brought it to Anonymous Content for a screen adaptation, according to IMDB.

Kate Walsh will also be starring in the series as Hannah's mom, along with Derek Luke, who will play the school's guidance counselor named Mr. Porter. The series writer and director are Brian Yorkey and Tom McCarthy, respectively, while Paramount TV is also part of the series production.

"13 Reasons Why" is expected to debut in 2017 on Netflix.
