The fifth installment to the "Underworld" franchise will premiere in the first week of January next year. In the sequel to "Underworld: Awakening," Selene (Kate Beckinsale) will transform into a more powerful vampire.

"Underworld: Blood Wars" will revolve around Selene fighting both the Lycans and the Vampires. According to the official synopsis via IBTimes – "Underworld: Blood Wars follows Vampire death dealer, Selene as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice."

In the official trailer, Selene reveals that her motivation to end the war between Lycans and vampires is personal. Her involvement in the war has caused her to lose her vampire-Lycan hybrid lover Michael (Trent Garrett) and has made her daughter Eve (India Eisley) a target of both clans. Both the Lycans and the vampires believe that Eve can make them more powerful. It seems that she will go to great lengths to end this war for good.

Beckinsale told Yahoo! Movies, "If Selene ever has to really kill anybody – like a really serious monster – it's never just that she gets the biggest sword there is. It involves a plan that's twisted as [expletive]," as reported by UPI.

In a new trailer, Selene will be advised to travel North to find what she needs in order to win the war. She will then enter into a cocoon where she will transform into a more powerful being with new abilities such as teleportation.

Selene will be facing the two new reigning leaders of the Lycan and vampire clans according to Variety. Marius (Tobias Menzies) will be the new hungry Lycan leader and Semira (Lara Pulver) will be the queen of vampires aiming to get ahold of Selene and her daughter's blood to gain more power.

"Underworld: Blood Wars" will debut on January 6, 2017.
