A lot of single Christians today struggle with the thought of remaining single, but there should be a very good reason why God is keeping you single in this season of your life. And because Jesus can be bring full satisfaction and joy, single Christian men and women can be assured that God has their best interests in mind.
There's no exact age that a man or woman is to get married. It can vary across cultures, family backgrounds and professions. Some get married in their early 20s while others wait until their 30s to tie the knot.
And then there are those who spend evenings staring out the window wondering whether God really has a soul mate reserved for you. Okay, so maybe that's not exactly what happens, but in some way or another there are those who worry about ever getting married.
While it can be tempting to just pick and find anyone that you see and settle, that's not what God wants for you. He wants the best, and it's not that every other bachelor you know is terrible, but they're just not the perfect fit God has for you.
One character we can look at when it comes to waiting for the right time is Sarah and Abraham. While they waited for the promise of a child instead of marriage, the principle remains the same: God gives us a promise of a life lived in fullness (John 10:10) and asks us to wait in His perfect timing. Abraham and Sarah had to wait 25 years to receive the promise of a son, and through that promise, God bore a nation.
I'm not implying that you're going to wait 25 years after today to find that perfect man or woman who will be a loving spouse to you, but God calls us to wait upon Him. To be still and know that He is God and that He is a God who is in control of everything.
While you wait for that fateful day, God does ask you to do one thing -- to enjoy your singlehood and enjoy this season doing what He has meant for you to experience at this time. Marriage is beautiful, but it will never satisfy the way a relationship with Jesus does and compared to intimacy with God, intimacy with a husband or wife is simply a consolation.
In this season of singleness, you can be assured that God will still allow you to experience fullness and satisfaction, and it's not in some pseudo-relationship and it's definitely also not in your career. It is in a deep and satisfying relationship with our Lord and Savior. God wants us to enjoy Him in singleness and marriage. That is the point of life, not human companionship.
