'The Winds of Winter' release date rumors: Book still not ready for a 2017 release

George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" has become a hit series especially since HBO adapted the book's story in their original TV show "Game of Thrones." Now, a legion of fans is eagerly awaiting the last book of the series, "The Winds of Winter."

As of now there is still no official news about "The Winds of Winter's" official release date, and it has been speculated that it could be because of missed deadlines due to the author's hectic schedule.

"The Winds of Winter" has been under development for approximately six years. The last book George R.R. Martin released was "A Dance with Dragons" back in 2011.

The last book's delay has even taken its toll on HBO's TV series, making the TV show's plot deviate from the book's plot since there was no book to base the story on. "The Winds of Winter" could probably have a different ending as opposed to the one that will be shown in the next season of "Game of Thrones" in 2017.

George R.R. Martin has been known to delay the release of his books because he prioritizes the quality of the story, therefore not giving in to the pressure of deadlines just for the sake of finishing the book. "The Winds of Winter's" release has already been postponed twice, and rumors suggest that the last installment of "A Song of Ice and Fire" series might not be ready for 2017 as well.

In other "Game of Thrones" news, according to George R.R. Martin's official blog, an illustrated and signed edition of "Game of Thrones" will be released on Oct. 18 at the Jean Cocteau Cinema (JCC) Bookstore in celebration of the first book's 20th anniversary.

As of now there is very little word on the release of "The Winds of Winter." George R.R. Martin even teased "Game of Thrones" fans with his twitter post containing a screenshot from one of the episodes of "Game of Thrones" captioned, "When someone asks me when the book will be finished." The post made it clear that George R.R. Martin wants fans to know that the book will be done when it's done.
