Matt's (Zach Roerig) father is coming home and he has a lot of questions to answer from his son. Meanwhile, Caroline (Candice King) will go to great lengths to keep her twins safe.
Previously on "The Vampire Diaries," Matt searched for his father and found out that the latter owned Maxwell Mechanics. Apparently, his father didn't know that his son existed until Matt contacted him.
TV Line reports that Matt's father is coming to Mystic Falls, and Matt may finally have closure for the biggest unresolved issue in his life. Executive producer Julie Plec explains how Matt's father will impact the series' story and Roerig's character.
"It's sad if you think about everything Matt has been through, and that's ultimately what he has to make his dad understand. It's not just that he left, but the life he left Matt with took such a turn to sadness. That's been the biggest struggle Matt's had to fight against growing up," said Plec.
Roerig adds that Matt can finally get the closure that everyone around him has wanted for him. His father coming home will also help him better understand why his life turned out the way it did.
Meanwhile, the twins will be put in danger and Caroline will do everything to keep them safe in the upcoming sixth episode of "The Vampire Diaries," titled "Detoured On Some Random Backwoods Path to Hell"
According to the synopsis released by The Futon Critic, "When her children become the focus of the Siren's latest plan, Caroline takes drastic measures to ensure nothing gets in the way of keeping her family safe. In a race against the clock, Stefan (Paul Wesley) pledges to do everything he can to save the twins, while tensions between Alaric (Matt Davis) and Caroline boil over, leading them to face some harsh realities about the future of their family."
Also, Stefan will be diving deep into his subconscious and will trigger a slew of events that will force him to make a life-changing decision.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 airs every Friday at 8 p.m EST on The CW.
