There are a lot of speculations going around that a few characters from "The Vampire Diaries" will crossover and play major roles in season 5. Also, it is possible that "The Originals" will be on its fourth and final season.

Previously in "The Originals," Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is still in a painful coma and is under the captivity of his successor, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis). Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and their daughter Hope (Summer Fontana) have left New Orleans to find the cure that will break the spell cast over Klaus and the other Mikaelsons who bonded their lives to Klaus and ended up in a deep sleep as well.

Season 4 will begin after a five-year time jump, where Hope will already have developed her abilities from her vampire-wolf heritage and is expected to have magical abilities as well. Because of Hope's promising powers, she is anticipated to be the one to wake her father Klaus and bring back to life the rest of the Mikaelsons.

But according to Itechpost, a favored alternative to Hope is Klaus' lover from "The Vampire Diaries" show, Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola). The two had a passionate affair when Klaus had crossed paths with Caroline in Mystic Falls but had ended it abruptly over the phone. Since Klaus always rushed to help Caroline whenever she was in trouble, many fans want to see Caroline saving Klaus from his painful coma.

Another speculation about the season 4 plot is that Klaus will be dying, and his death will be caused by another "The Vampire Diaries" character, Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev). According to Movie News Guide, Klaus' death will signal the end of the series in its fourth season and Katherine's involvement in it adds a grave revelation to how the show ends.

There are some rumors that "The Originals" is already on its final season, due to season 3's low ratings. According to Parent Herald, one of the reasons for the show's loss in viewers is killing off well-loved characters such as Cami (Leah Pipes) and Davina (Danielle Campbell). There has been no confirmation about the series cancellation, but there are also rumors that "The Originals" will be moved into a different network.

"The Originals" season 4 is expected to premiere in January 2017 on The CW.
