A new leak has come out indicating that Korea-based smartphone manufacturer Samsung is launching a 2016 model of the mid-range handset Galaxy J1.

Vietnam website SCCN shows phone enthusiasts who are looking for mid-rangers the upcoming successor of the under $100 category handset by Samsung. The 2016 model of the Samsung Galaxy J1 will sport a 4.5-inch WVGA screen with 480 x 800 pixel resolution, and will be powered by a Exynos 3457 processor and quad-core CPU. The phone will also come with 8GB built-in memory and 1GB of RAM.

The smartphone's camera will be maintained at 5 MP for the main camera, and 2 MP front-facing shooter. The J1 also has the same dual-sim slot feature and a microSD card slot for memory expansion of up to 128 GB.

The leaked images of the 2016 edition of the Samsung Galaxy J1 do not seem to show any major changes on the chassis of the handset, but sizing wise it is a little bigger than the 2015 version. Another photo of the back with the battery removed indicates the serial number SM-J120F, and that the handset is made in Vietnam by Samsung. It is also said that the next J1 smartphone will launch with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.

The first model of the Samsung Galaxy J1 was launched last back in Feb. 2015 by the South Korean company to hit developing markets who were looking for promising specs for lower prices. The 2015 model packed a 4.3-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen and dual-core CPU, launching with with Android 4.4.4 Kitkat out of the box.

The smartphone has an internal memory capacity of up to 4 GB and 512 MB of RAM. The Samsung Galaxy J1 (2015) sells for Rs. 6,190 or $93 in the market today. Samsung has remained quiet for the meantime about the upcoming 2nd generation Galaxy J1 as they are seen to be focused on launching the Samsung Galaxy S7.
