"Pokemon Go" will be releasing a game update in the near future that includes a new set of monsters to add to the original 151 and a breeding feature between identical Pokemon.

Neurogadget reports that game developer Niantic and The Pokemon Company confirmed that a Gen 2 update will be released for "Pokemon GO" at the San Diego Comic-Con 2016 last July. A lot is expected from the game update, and Niantic CEO John Hanke revealed their plans for the "Pokemon GO Gen 2" update.

"Pokemon GO Gen 2" will reportedly have a second generation of monsters to be added to the original 151, which will motivate gamers to continue playing in order to catch and collect all the existing Pokemon. Hanke also revealed that Pokestops can now be customized by players after the update. This feature will allow gamers to enhance and alter the function of each Pokestop.

The most talked about feature in "Pokemon GO Gen 2" is the ability to breed Pokemon. This will improve the game's way of acquiring eggs and the gamer's opportunity to collect specific candies that they need to power up their captured Pokemon.

In this update, Pokemon will be assigned genders at random. When a player has acquired two adult Pokemon of opposite genders, breeding will become an available option through a Daycare tab, which will be added alongside the breeding feature.

At the TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, Hanke also confirmed that "Gen 2" will have battles where players can go against each other with their Pokemon. Hanke explains, "I have 10-year old son – he's my Pokémon expert, we play together – he wants to battle his friends in Pokémon Go. Battling is something we talk a lot about. It's probably something that will make its way onto our roadmap."

A recent "Pokemon Go" update added the buddy Pokemon feature. The player can choose a Pokemon to go alongside the avatar while walking and collect candy at the same time.

"Pokemon GO Gen 2" will be released in 2017.
