"Outlander" season 3 will begin 20 years after the Battle of Culloden. Jamie (Sam Heughan) may still be alive, but two major deaths are on the horizon for the show's upcoming season.

Previously in "Outlander," Claire (Caitriona Balfe) finds out twenty years later that her lost love and the father of her child did not die at the Battle of Culloden. Claire is determined to go back in time to find Jamie, and the real events that took place in Culloden will be revealed in "Outlander" season 3.

In an interview with Elle, Heughan shares that the third season is based on Diana Gabaldon's third book, "Voyager." He mentions that season 3 will be very exciting and it will have big emotional turns as well.

With the series beginning 20 years later, it is expected that the rest of the characters have aged a lot just like Claire did at the season 2 finale of "Outlander." However, Heughan explains that Jamie had a different kind of aging that will be shown in season 3.

"I think it's less about looking older and more about the experiences he's gone through," teased Heughan.

Since "Outlander" season 3 is based on "Voyager," the show will have different locations for its upcoming scenes. The show has already shot scenes in Scotland and "Outlander" will also shoot several episodes in Jamaica.

Heughan also told Harper's Bazaar that the season 3 finale will take place in South Africa.

"Outlander" season 3 will reveal the events that took place in the Battle of Culloden, and an aftermath of the battle is two major deaths, IBT revealed. Although no other details were mentioned about these deaths, fans will soon find out at the premiere of season 3.

One more thing that fans can expect to see in the upcoming season of "Outlander" is Claire reuniting with Jamie. In a Twitter post a fan asked "Outlander" executive producer Ronald Moore when the two will finally reunite in season 3. Moore teased that he will not tell fans when Claire will finally be with Jamie, but his response confirms that the two will definitely see each other again.

"Outlander" season 3 is expected to premiere in 2017.
