Actor Leonardo DiCaprio is strongly looking to finally bringing home an Oscar this year as his spectacular performance in "The Revenant" earned him the award for best actor in the recently concluded Golden Globes and established him as the front-runner for best actor in the Academy Awards as well.

DiCaprio's recent award for "The Revenant" marks his third best actor gold in the Golden Globes, his other two awards being in "The Aviator" and "The Wolf of Wall Street." Many analysts are claiming that "The Revenant" could be the key to the actors first Academy Award.

It's important to note that the Oscars are in no way directly affected by Golden Globe wins, as the Globes serve only to raise awareness and market films. It is, however, a good estimate in gauging the reception of certain films and actors, which could measure how a performance pans out in the eyes of judges and audiences.

According to Latin Post, "The Revenant" came to the awards with no expectations, but came out strong beating front-runner "Spotlight," which left the venue award-less. The film bagged three awards- one for DiCaprio, and the other two being for best film and best director. Film director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu trumped other directors who were also strong bets including George Miller for his work in "Mad Max: Fury Road," and Tom McCarthy for "Spotlight."

Matt Damon also bagged a best actor award in the comedy category for "The Martian," which created some confusion considering some viewers do not consider the film as a comedy.

The nominees for the Oscars will be disclosed come Thursday, Jan. 14, but fans are already expecting DiCaprio's name to be included in the lost for Best Actor. Many outlets are saying that this could be the year that DiCaprio gets his first Oscars.

In the "The Revenant," DiCaprio portrays a frontiersman on a fur trading expedition who tries to survive after being attacked by a bear and left by his own hunters.
