The new Microsoft Surface phones are expected to launch in 2017. The device is anticipated to have innovative new features such as fingerprint readers and proximity sensors.
According to Mobile & Apps, there has been no confirmation when Microsoft will be releasing their new Surface phone lineup but it will allegedly be launched in 2017. The reason for the anticipated Surface phone lineup release is that Microsoft has acquired the domain name of surfacephone.com.
There are also speculations that the corporate vice president for Surface Computing at Microsoft Corporation – Panos Panay – and his team are working on a smartphone that has an aluminum and magnesium structure, which will top the Lumia lineup. The anticipated Surface phone lineup is speculated to have new features such as a fingerprint reader, compass, proximity sensor, barometer, and a 20MP Carl Zeiss rear camera.
It will also have the Intel Atom X3 processor, with a 5.5 inch Active-Matrix Organic Light-emitting Diode display. A USB port and liquid cooling technology will also be among the anticipated features of the new Surface phones. The new Surface phones will have variety in terms of RAM, ranging from 3 GB to 8 GB, with additional 512 GB storage.
A lot is expected from the Microsoft's new Surface phone lineup. But according to PC World, Microsoft might not push through with Surface phones.
At the Microsoft October 2016 Event, there was no news about the Surface phones. Microsoft's executive vice president of Windows and Devices — Terry Myerson — was asked why they are focusing on advancing the Windows 10 Mobile during an interview with ZDnet.
"Technically, there are really two things that are unique about Windows Mobile. One is cellular connectivity and the other one is the ARM processors that are there," Myerson responded. "So we're going to continue to invest in ARM and cellular. And while I'm not saying what type of device, I think we'll see devices there, Windows devices that use ARM chips. I think we'll see devices that have cellular connectivity," added Myerson.
Because Myerson used the term "device" instead of "phone," it sparked speculations that the Surface phones will be released as tablets instead.
There has been no confirmation about when the Microsoft Surface phone will be released, but it will reportedly be sometime in 2017.
