Meizu is reportedly using another Samsung-built chipset, the Exynos 8870, for the company's next flagship smartphone the Meizu Pro 6.

According to Chinese website, My Drivers, the Samsung's Exynos 8870 is a processor meant for use by third-party phone builders. The chipset is only a notch less powerful than the Exynos 8890, which Samsung is preparing for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 handsets that will be launched in the next few months.

Meizu is reportedly planning to use the Exynos 8870 for another of its flagship handsets, the Meizu Pro 6, which the phone manufacturer will be launching to succeed their latest release, the Meizu Pro 5. Although the 8870 is not as powerful as the 8890, which features a 14nm FinFET fabrication process a CPU based on 64-bit ARMv8, it still promises to be more powerful than many of the upcoming flagships by other OEMs.

The predecessor of the Pro 6, the Meizu Pro 5, was launched last September 2015 sporting a 5.7-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen and a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The handset is powered by a Exynos 7420, which was also created by South Korean company Samsung, meant as well for third-party phone manufacturers. A Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57 CPU comes with the processor, paired with a Mali-T760MP8 GPU.

The Pro 5 also sports a 21-megapixel back-facing camera with 1/2.4" sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama. The front-facing camera has 5 megapixels. The handset also comes in two variations in terms of memory- one with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory, and another with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory.

The upcoming Meizu Pro 6 is expected to launch out of the box running on a FlyMe OS 5.0 firmware, Meizu's in-house mobile operating system based on Android's 5.1 Lollipop firmware. The FlyMe OS 5.0 will bring features such as better battery life, a new user interface design, multi-tasking and split screen modes, a notification bar, a music locker and many more.

Meizu has not given any formal announcements on the upcoming Meizu Pro 6 yet, but it is expected that an announcement should come anytime in the earlier part of this year.
