A leak reports that users may be seeing the first unveiling of the LG G5 during the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The update comes from a tipster named Zealer who posted rumours on the Chinese social media website Weibo.

The leak was spotted by Tech Grapple, and puts the possible announcement date for LG G5 on February 2016, and since MWC 2016 will be happening around that time, it's most likely LG fans will be seeing the LG G5 for the first time there.

The leak also includes some rumoured specs for the LG G5, including an iris retina scanner to go along with the previously rumoured fingerprint scanner. Korean website Who Wired further suggests that the scanner will be created by IRIENCE, a Korea-based biometric specialist, and will be able to identify a user through eye scanners from 50 cm away.

Other rumoured specs for the LG flagship smartphone includes a 5.6-inch screen with a 2560x1440 pixel display and a Snapdragon 820 chipset to power the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware that the handset will launch out of the box with. The camera for the handset will be a 21 megapixel back-side camera and a 5 megapixel front-side camera.

Mobile World Congress 2016 is set to happen on Feb. 22-25, 2016 in two venues, the Fira Gran Via and Fira Montjuïc, which are both located in Barcelona, Spain. It is also believed that competitor Samsung will be unveiling its upcoming flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S7, in the same event.

The LG G5 follows the success of the LG G4, which was launched back in April 2015. The G5 predecessor sports a 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1440 x 2560 pixel screen resolution, and protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen. It is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 chipset and 3 GB of RAM.
