HTC smartwatch release date in April

A reliable source states that HTC will be releasing its first smart watch sometime in April. The wearable device by the Taiwanese tech company is expected to compete with the global market for smart watches such as those created by Samsung, Apple, Huawei and Motorola.

Leakster Evan Blass, in a reply to a fan inquiring on Twitter whether he had any news on the HTC One M10, said "Nope, but the watch should be out mid-April." Blass was referring to a smart watch from HTC.

HTC was listed as an Android Wear partner when the wearable operating system was launched, but the company has yet to introduce a wearable device to the market. An HTC wearable device has long been in talks, but none have become reality just yet.

One of the earliest rumors were those by CNet back in September 2014 stating that HTC was working to launch a smart watch in early 2015, but that never happened.

However, that does not mean that HTC fans should disqualify HTC from the smart watch race just yet. Latest talks have been that HTC is putting together resources and ideas for a smart watch codenamed "Halfbeak," which just like other smart wearables is named after a fish.

According to PH Android, Halfbeak will sport the latest Android Wear operating system, and will come with a rounded design and a 360 x 360 pixel resolution.

The leak by Blass seems to build on those talks, and analysts are saying that an April 2016 launch would fit perfectly into a February announcement in the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Rumours also indicate that the smart watch will be launched together with the HTC One M10 or the HTC Vive VR Headset, or possibly even both.

Blass is currently an editorialist in Venture Beat, and has worked with other tech publications such as EN Gadget and Pocket Now.
