How the name of Jesus has the power to change our direction

Nearly every believer is in search of meaning greater than themselves- a purpose from God that they can serve. What many don't know is that something as small as confessions and meditations can affect our pursuit of purpose, and unless we start confessing the name and power of Jesus, we are barely scratching the surface.

There is power in the confessions of the tongue and the meditations of the mind. What we think and say is often what we become. That's why Proverbs 18:21 so firmly says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits." God designed our confessions and meditations to be of power and it can affect the actions we take and decisions we make.

Romans 12:1 tells us, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." What is it about the renewal of the mind that is so important to God, and why is God so negative towards mediocrity and empty conformity to patterns?

God calls us to live lives that are separate from the ways of this world because the ways of this world only bring corruption to us and to God's name. However, when God calls us to live in His ways, they can be ways that are unpopular and can be very difficult to live by.

When the world is loose, He asks us to live in integrity and that's hard. When the world is complacent, He calls us to chase after bigger visions and that's hard as well. As simple as changing our thoughts and confessions may sound, they can often be hard.

But that is why God calls us to fill our thoughts and confessions with Jesus Christ and rely on the power that is in Him to affect our decisions and actions. Romans 10:9 says, "because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." That is the power behind confessing and believing in the power in Jesus' name. If Jesus can save your spirit from sin, how much more every other fibre of your being?

There is power in our confessions to affect us for the good and bad, but if we fill our minds and tongues with things that are of Christ, we experience the abundance of God's love and grace. We must confess and believe in Christ to have the power to know our purposes, be led away from the destructive patterns of this world and to fulfil God's will in our lives because there is power in the confession and meditation of the name and glory of Christ.
