The mind is a battlefield. Every single waking moment you live there will be a war waging in your head and it can get bloody, dirty, dangerous and tiring. However, the battle of the mind is a battle already won in Jesus Christ if we put our hope in Him for victory and let Him fight the battle for us.
One of the biggest battles we face today is the battle for our purpose, and the Bible tells us that our purpose comes not through our educational background, not through our past, not through our abilities or our skills but through a mind renewed and moulded by Christ.
Romans 12:2 tells us, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
The Bible makes it clear that the path to a new and transformed life is winning the battle in our mind. How do we win the battle of the mind? Here's a two-punch strategy to winning the battle that is in your mind.
Jab #1. Take every captive thought
2 Corinthians 10:5 says, "We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ."
Many if not all of the thoughts that will try to destroy us will first try to distort the truth of God's Word. The enemy wants us to believe that God does not care about us, that the situation is above fixing or that we aren't worth God's time.
But we are called to take captive every thought and submit it to Jesus Christ. All lies will be exposed in the glory of Jesus and only the truth that renews minds and gives life will prevail.
Jab #2. Remember the faithfulness of Christ
Lamentations 3:21-24 tells us, "But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 'The Lord is my portion,' says my soul, 'therefore I will hope in him'"
Just like the author of Lamentations, we are to "call to mind" the steadfast love of God, and what better way to portray that than to remember the love and sacrifice of Jesus for us when He gave His life up so that we are set free from our sin and drawn back to Him. When we choose to remember Jesus and to fill our minds with His Spirit, we open ourselves up to a brand new way of living - one that no longer moves around aimlessly, but walks in a purpose.
