'Halo Wars 2' release date rumors, updates: Remastered version of 'Halo Wars' to debut before release of sequel

"Halo Wars 2" will hit the shelves on Feb. 21, 2017. Xbox/Microsoft

"Halo Wars 2" is one action game that has been highly-anticipated by "Halo" fans, and it will be coming to gaming consoles next year just after a remastered edition of its predecessor gets released.

Back in June tech giant Microsoft confirmed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event that "Halo Wars 2" will be released in February 2017, and to increase the hype surrounding the game, the developer teased that they will be releasing a remastered version of the game's sequel, "Halo Wars."

Rumors about the remastered "Halo Wars" version suggests that the game will come out with greatly enhanced graphics along with downloadable content packs. Other speculations also suggest that a stand-alone version will be launched sometime after the sequel's release.

As for the sequel's plot, "Halo Wars 2" will have its players lead Captain Cutter and his team against a powerful faction, led by the deadly warrior Atriox, called The Banish.

"Halo Wars 2" is set 28 years after the first "Halo Wars." In "Halo Wars 2," the team lead by Captain Cutter will soon realize that they have been in cryosleep for almost three decades.

"When they come out of cryosleep, the crew is not able to contact the UNSC, so they're in a bit of a vacuum," said "Halo Wars 2" developer Dan Ayoub, referencing the United Nations Space Command, the standing army of the Halo universe. "They have no idea that the Covenant is not even a thing at this point. They have no clue what happened in the rest of the war."

"Halo Wars 2" fans can expect a lot of new weapons as well as new opponents in the "Halo Wars" real-time action game sequel that is set to come out in the first quarter of 2017.

"Halo Wars 2" will be available for Xbox One and PC on February 21, 2017, with a price tag of $59.99 USD for the standard version, and $79.99 USD for the deluxe edition.
