Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) might be going to jail after beating up Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), who brought Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) home with him. Meanwhile, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) might be falling in love in season 13 with a new love interest, Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson).
Previously on "Grey's Anatomy" season 12, Alex beat up DeLuca because he brought home a drunk and passed-out Jo. The former thought that they were fooling around, which pushed him to the brink. Alex was so angry he beat DeLuca to within an inch of his life. In the "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 extended promo, DeLuca was brought to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, and talk is going around that the culprit will go to jail. A regretful Alex confides in Meredith, but it is only a matter of time before they find out that he's the one to blame for DeLuca's injuries.
However, fans can rest assured that DeLuca will not die in "Grey's Anatomy." Executive producer Shonda Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly that DeLuca will survive the beat down from Alex. DeLuca will even have a bigger storyline in season 13. Fans will get to know more about who he is and what role he plays in "Grey's Anatomy."
Meanwhile, Meredith just might be falling in love again in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13. Previously, Meredith sparked an unexpected romance with Riggs. Despite a love triangle happening with her, Riggs, and her sister Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary), Meredith will be continuing this romance with Riggs in season 13.
This doesn't mean that Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) will be replaced as her one great love. In an interview with TV Line, Pompeo shared that even after having the love of your life, you can still fall in love again. "Sure, you may have other relationships, and you may even marry again, but everybody has that one great love." Although there may never be another Derek, it doesn't mean Meredith can't have another love named Nathan.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
