Jesus commands us all to be fruitful and empowers us to be productive maximising every bit of our skills, talents and resources that we may fulfil His purpose for our lives. But that should never make us misunderstand Him by thinking Jesus is the reason we are busy.
In Matthew 5:16, Jesus commanded His disciples and thus commands us, too, today, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
We were created to be examples, testimonies that prove God's faithfulness by being a blessing to the people around us.
Whether it's being a blessing in the office place, the campus or even in your own home, God has called us all to be a light.
I remember one time when a woman approached me in the grocery store telling me that she attends our church service and how she loved watching me and my family as we were shopping because of how evidently we enjoyed each other's company. Imagine that, just the way you shop can be a blessing to others.
The thing about being a testimony is that a busy person can never be a good testimony much to the dismay of many who are under this big misconception. Being busy puts you in a spot where you are overwhelmed and often to the point of exhaustion and anxiety. You can be busy with the ministry, your career or even your personal affairs. God doesn't want you overwhelmed and tired. He wants you rejuvenated and enjoying His work.
2 Corinthians 2:24 says, "Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm in your faith."
Just as Paul worked not with a manipulative, coercive, stressful and busy atmosphere but one that was empowering and enjoyable, God wants us to do the same.
I'm not implying that as we serve God, everything will always be perfectly fine and nothing bad will happen. But even in the midst of pressure and trials, we can stand unshaken by the pressure of this world because we are confident in Christ Jesus and the work He does in our lives.
Sure your quotas can be stressful, your employees might go against you, bills might pile up and shoot up and ministry might get difficult, but knowing that God makes all things work together for our good (Romans 8:28) assures us that we need not be busy, overwhelmed and gasping for air as we fulfil God's purposes. We know that because we are in good hands, we can bear fruit and do good works, but not be overtaken by the busyness of our everyday affairs.
