The third installment of the "Avengers" franchise will premiere in 2018. The directors of "Avengers: Infinity Wars" – the Russo brothers – are excited about the Guardians' role in the upcoming movie.

The third movie installment featuring the Marvel superhero team the Avengers is set to premiere on May 4, 2018, following "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in 2015 and "Avengers" in 2012. Little information has been released about the upcoming movie, but it is expected to bring together majority of the heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Screenrant revealed that the six Infinity Stones will be brought together in the Infinity Gauntlet that is in the hands of Thanos (Josh Brolin).

According to the Marvel comics, Thanos is a Titanian Eternal who is capable of many super abilities, and is known to be a follower of Death, an abstract entity that gave him more power. He plans to collect all the Infinity Stones to help him erase living things on Earth as a tribute to Death.

There is no confirmation if "Avengers: Infinity Stones" will have the same plot, but almost every hero from Marvel will be teaming up to prevent Thanos from collecting the stones.

Aside from the Avengers, another group from the Marvel Comics universe will help defeat Thanos. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo have told Comicbook that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be helping out the Avengers in this legendary battle.

It is expected that Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) — a.k.a. Star-Lord — will be playing a big role in the upcoming Avengers movie. "Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you'd be very excited," Anthony teased in response to Star-Lord's presence in "Avengers: Infinity Wars."

Other than Quill, another hero expected to be one of the major leagues in the upcoming Avengers movie is the Asgardian Thor (Chris Hemsworth).

"They're doing some really interesting stuff with 'Ragnarok' and where he's gonna be at the beginning of 'Infinity War' is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he's gonna have a real emotional motivation after that," Joe added.

"Avengers: Infinity Wars" will premiere on May 4, 2018.
