Motorola has begun rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware update to owners of the Moto X 2014 Pure Edition variant. The update seems to be limited to unlocked handsets only.
Members of the Android Central Forum started announcing to the Moto world that the Android Marshmallow firmware roll-out started coming out via an over-the-air update. Users from the U.S., Canada, Brazil, India and the U.K. have started receiving the update coming straight into their handsets.
It's important to note that mobile OS roll-outs are usually released by OEMs in stages to allow time to check for bugs and to avoid clogging of networks as well. It may be a few days or even a few weeks until the roll-out goes out to every corner of the world.
Owners of the second generation of the Moto X Pure Edition can check if they are getting the update by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates. The update will take up 884 MB of memory to download so handset owners should make sure to have adequate battery and Wi-Fi connection before going ahead with the update.
Android Marshmallow brings a variety of new features to an Android handset, including Doze Mode which gives better battery life by deliberately managing phone activity. Other features introduced are Now on Tap, Android Pay, better fingerprint scanners and new user interface designs.
The Moto X (2014) was announced and launched on September 2014, and it sports a 5.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. The screen is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The handset is run by a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801, and has 2 GB of RAM.

The Moto X Pure Edition brings a raw Android firmware experience to the handset without all the personalized bloatware that third-party OEMs usually add to a mobile OS to keep the company's branding. This allows for faster roll-outs given that Motorola doesn't add much to the software skin anymore.
