A leaked list of the scheduled release of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware for Samsung smartphones and phablets has made rounds online indicating that the Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge+, S6, S6 Edge, Note 4 and Note Edge will all be getting the firmware update before the first quarter of 2016 closes.

Just About Phones released a copy of the list of Samsung flagships that will be getting the Android Marshmallow firmware and when they will be arriving. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will be the first to receive the updates by the time February comes, indicating that the devices are in the final stages of testing.

The Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge will be receiving Android Marshmallow sometime in March 2016, as the devices are currently in testing stages as well.

Although Samsung has always been a leading Android-based OEM in the phone market, the Korean-based company has never been one to be the fastest in releasing firmware updates. The Android Marshmallow was released to the Google flagships Nexus 6P upon its launch back in September, and OEMs HTC and Motorola pushed not far behind to release the firmware to their latest flagships. Sony is also close to sending out an over-the-air update to their flagships.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update brings an array of new features to Android-based phones including Doze Mode, which proactively saves battery life by imposing standbys on specific programs and operations. Other features include improvements to the fingerprint scanning software, access to Android Pay, Google Now on Tap, New Design Interfaces and many more.

Unfortunately, owners of the Samsung Galaxy S5 variants will no longer be receiving an update for Android Marshmallow. It is also believed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 will launch out of the box with the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow firmware.
