Every Christian wants and desires one thing: to know and obey God's will. Often, knowing and pursuing God's will for our lives seems a whole lot like rocket science- complicated and difficult.
However, knowing God's will was never meant to be complicated, but truth be told it was never meant to be easy either because God's desire is for us to pursue Him even though things get hard.
The Bible shares to us realities about God's will for us that help shed light, and helps us validate God's good and pleasing will for us. I would like to share five realities, and although this list is not exhaustive and that the realities that surround God's will is infinite in reality, this list shares some of the most fundamental but easily forgotten.
I have also not included Jeremiah 29:11 because every Christian already knows that! And if you don't then feel free to open up a Bible and let it take you by storm! The five realities that I would like to impress to you are:
1. It's not the only option, but it's the best option
God loves us so much that He doesn't want to be the killjoy to tell you, "Follow me, you have no other choice." Pursuing anything aside from the will of God can be non-beneficial and even dangerous to us. It is not because God hurts us intentionally for going against Him, but because choosing to go against God's will takes us away from His goodness and blessing. Isaiah 55:9 says, ""As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
2. It's going to cost you
Everyone is free to follow Jesus and nothing can be more liberating! That doesn't mean however that obeying and following Him will not cost us anything. In fact, it will cost us our whole lives. Luke 9:23 tells us. "Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me."
3. It leads to righteousness
One thing is for sure: God does not want you to remain stained by your sin. That is why God the Father sent His only Son to pay the penalty of sin. God's will will always lead to sanctification and removal of sin and its consequences in our lives. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 declares, "For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;"
4. It comes through the renewal of mindsets
The will of God may most likely challenge your mindsets, but that's how it works. God wants to remove the imperfect and earthly things that limit us and lead us to His unlimited will for us. Romans 12:2 says "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
5. There are "Christians" that don't obey God's will
It doesn't mean that you call yourself a Christian that you are already pursuing and obeying God's will. Many people say they are Christians, but continue to do things their way. God's will starts with us surrendering our everything to His Lordship. Luke 6:46 "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I tell you?"
