4-inch iPhone will be named 'iPhone 5SE'

It seems that another candidate for a name for the upcoming mid-range iPhone that will be launched middle of this year has surfaced. Reports also indicate that the smartphone is not a preview to the iPhone 7 nor is it a smaller version of the iPhone 6S. Rather the upcoming Apple handset is simply an enhanced version of the iPhone 5S.

According to 9to5 Mac, an inside source has said that the upcoming iPhone will be named the iPhone 5SE. The "SE" suffix is said to have two possible implications: It's either an acronym for "special edition" referring to it as a special variant of the 4-inch iPhone, or a shortcut for the name "iPhone 5S enhanced" implying that the phone will be a variant of the iPhone 5S which was launched back in 2013.

Sources have also given insight into what specs the upcoming Apple handset will come out with. The shiny edges of the iPhone 5S will be replaced by curved glass edges in the upcoming iPhone 5SE, and the same Silver, Space Gray, Gold, & Rose Gold color options will be provided to users.

9to5 Mac also reported that the iPhone 5SE will replace the A8 and M8 chips that the iPhone 5S is equipped with, and place in faster A9 and M9 chipsets in the new handset. With the introduction of faster chips, it is believed that Siri will now be always on, the same way Siri is readily available anytime in the iPhone 6S that also sports an M9 chip.

The same cameras will be placed on the iPhone 5SE, sporting an 8-megapixel rear-end camera and a 1.2-megapixel front-side camera. The cameras will however get better support for panorama shooting, autofocus and video recording. It is also believed that the upcoming iPhone 5SE will contain an NFC chip for Apple Pay support.

The iPhone 5SE is now being manufactured and will most likely be unveiled in March and released in April.
