Xiaomi to launch new Windows 10 tablet

Following reports that Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Inc. is launching its new Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 phablet within this month, a new rumor has recently surfaced, claiming that the company has begun working on a new tablet that is expected to run on Microsoft's latest Windows 10 operating system (OS) instead of Android.

According to a report by BGR, this rumor came from Chinese analyst, Pan Jiutang, who added in the report that Xiaomi will be releasing the new Windows 10 OS tablet sometime by the third quarter of this year.

As of this time, nothing has been confirmed yet by the Chinese company, and there are no details available in regards to the tablet's specifications and features. It's also unclear whether Xiaomi's new tablet will run on the Windows 10 standard edition or on the Windows 10 mobile edition.

This won't be the first time for a Xiaomi device to run on Windows 10 OS. According to First Post, it was revealed earlier this year that Xiaomi was working with the software giant on a test version of the operating system. Last week, Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president of Microsoft's OS division, also unveiled via his Twitter account a picture of a Xiaomi Mi4 handset which apparently runs on Windows 10.

In addition, Xiaomi is expected to unveil its new MIUI 7 update, which is speculated to be based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS, at an upcoming event that will occur in China on Aug. 13, according to recent reports. Earlier stories have suggested that the highly anticipated Xiaomi Mi5 handset will also be launched at the said event.

Xiaomi's latest tablet, called the Mi Pad 7.9, was released last year in June, after it was announced the month prior. This Mi Pad device sports a 7.9-inch IPS LCD display screen with a 1536 x 2048 pixel resolution and runs on Android OS.
