"Warface" will be adding a new Battle Royale mode.

"Crysis" developer Crytek has announced that it is adding a new Battle Royale mode to its free-to-play first person shooter "Warface" on the next update. The announcement comes in the midst of the massive popularity being enjoyed by breakout Battle Royale game "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG)."

In its blog post, Crytek described the new Battle Royale mode as experimental, and said that it would only be available for a limited time. The new mode will pit players against each other in a kill or be killed scenario until only one remains.

The developer's blog post also detailed some of the achievements that players can unlock by playing the mode. The "King of the Hill" achievement is awarded to players who are left the last man standing in a game, while the "Guru of Survival" can be obtained by winning the Battle Royale 100 times.

There are also achievements based on the number of enemies eliminated in the Battle Royale mode. "Perfect Eliminator" is given to players who reached 1000 kills in the mode, while eliminating 100 enemies with a melee weapon.

The developer also hinted that there would be some element of surprise in the game, as players will not know what type of gun they will be getting. Crytek did not go into detail on the number of players that can participate in a Battle Royale match, but it said that the mode will utilize the largest player-versus-player map in "Warface." "PUBG," as well as "Fortnite's" recently announced Battle Royale mode, offers 100-player matches.

The massive popularity of "PUBG" is one of the biggest surprises of the year, as the game skyrocketed in popularity and amassed millions into its player base. The title has sold over 20 million copies despite the game being just an early access version for many months.

Naturally, other developers are looking into getting their hands into the same Battle Royale genre. "Fortnite" has introduced a Battle Royale mode, and Chinese technology giant Tencent is planning on launching a mobile game based on Battle Royale gameplay.
