True Detective HBO

The True Detective season 1 finale drew in so much traffic that the HBO streaming site crashed as viewers logged on to find out the true identity of "The Yellow King."

The season one finale of the popular cable show aired Sunday, March 9, at 9 p.m. However, towards the end of the episode, HBO tweeted on its HBO GO Twitter account: "Due to overwhelmingly popular demand for #TrueDetective, we've been made aware of an issue affecting some users. Please try again soon."

The 8th and final episode of The True Detective was called "Form and Void."

The crime drama show stars Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey as Rustin Cohle and Woody Harrelson as Marty Hart.

The show has grown in popularity among viewers, ranking in 11 million viewers. A greenlight for the second season is yet to be given HBO, but is expected to come as soon as creator Nic Pizzolatto pens the script.

Pizzolatto recently shared some details about season 2 to HitFix: "Okay. This is really early, but I'll tell you (it's about) hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system."

When asked if any of the reaction to the season 1 ending informed him of what he will do next in season 2, he said, "It's informed exactly one thing. It's that I realize I need to keep being strange. Don't play the next one straight."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pizzolatto gave an update on season 2. "I was well on my way in the writing but there's been a lot noise and work around the end of the first season that got in the way.
