Windows gaming platform Steam has unveiled a new service that gives users a way to send gifts other players' digital gifts. With the Steam Digital Gift Cards, players may now deposit money directly to their friends' Steam Wallets.
The launch of the new service comes just in time for this year's shopping season, when many game publishers will be offering discounts to their games, and subsequently many Steam users will be shopping for games.
Previously, players could only treat other users with physical vouchers or purchase games for them. With this new service, players get a very flexible way of giving gifts as the receiver can decide what to do with the digital currency that he or she is given.
Players may use the funds for purchasing games, in-game items and equipment, cosmetic upgrades, and hardware. They can also be used to purchase items from other players at the Steam Community Market.
Users looking to send a Steam Digital Gift Card only need to head to Steam's dedicated Steam Digital Gift Cards page, select an amount, and the user who they want to send the gift to, then settle the amount. The gifts come in denominations of $5, $10, $25, $50, and $100.
When sending the gift card, a Steam user may utilize major debit or credit cards from American Express, Visa, MasterCard, JCB, and Discover. Users may also opt to pay via PayPal or Bitcoin. Unfortunately, users cannot use their own Steam Wallet funds to pay for the gift.
This feature will be very useful especially when Steam's big annual sales, such as the Black Friday sale and winter events, arrive. During these events, a great number of users will be looking to purchase games and other items from Steam.
Steam is the largest PC gaming platform that hosts many popular games like "Dota 2," "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds," and "Counter Strike: Global Offensive."
