Samsung Galaxy A8 release date: 5.9 mm thin body?

New images of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy A8 smartphone have emerged online, giving a glimpse of the new ultra-thin handset.

The new Samsung Galaxy A8 smartphone, which first appeared last March, is expected to be released by the third quarter of this year, according to earlier rumors.

The recently released images show the new Samsung Galaxy A8 handset sporting a 5.9 millimeters thin body, which is thinner than Apple's iPhone 6 smartphone, according to BGR.

If the images are correct, this will be the thinnest smartphone ever developed by the South Korean tech giant. The new images were leaked by nowhereelse.fr, according to reports, and came along with the phone's specs and features.

The new Samsung Galaxy A8 is expected to come with a 5.7 inch display screen with a 1080 x 1920 resolution, according to earlier reports. The Samsung Galaxy A8 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm's MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 and will run on the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system. It will come with 2 GB worth of RAM and 16 GB internal memory space.

The new handset is expected to have a sharp 16 mega pixel rear camera and a 5 mega pixel front-facing camera. Other camera features include autofocus, HDR, face detection and panorama capabilities.

Rumors also suggest the new Samsung Galaxy A8 will be powered by a big non-removable 3050 mAh battery, which is almost as big as Samsung's recently released Galaxy S6 Active.

The expected colors available for this phone are champagne gold, pearl white and midnight black, according to GSM ARENA. Earlier rumors also suggested the new handset will come with a fingerprint sensor.

It's still unclear when exactly the new Samsung Galaxy A8 smartphone will be released. BGR recently reported that the new smartphone is being developed only for the Asian market and, according to earlier reports, for the European market as well.
