Seth Rogen, the co-executive producer of the television series "Preacher," has announced that the show has been confirmed for a third season, which will premiere in 2018.

Rogen shared the news via Twitter by posting a photo saying, "Preacher returns 2018." The exact date when the show will return has not been revealed yet.

The show is based on the cult comic book series that follows Jesse Custer, a small-town preacher with a dark past, in his darkly comedic adventures. In the show, actor Dominic Cooper portrays the role of Custer. The preacher becomes inhabited by a mysterious entity called Genesis, which has granted him the power to command others to do as he says. The series depicts how he deals with his newfound superpower.

The supernatural series aired its second season in June, and it showed how Custer dealt with the forces of The Grail, who are working to make sure the line of Jesus keeps the faith. Helping him in his adventures are his best friends, Tulip (Ruth Negga), an assassin who is also Custer's love interest, and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), a vice-loving vampire.

The season also showed how the protagonist, due to his Voice of God ability, was seen as a potential new messiah.

The second season was received very well by critics, earning a high 90 percent approval rating from review aggregation site, Rotten Tomatoes. However, it also experienced a drop in ratings compared to its first season, which aired last year. Still, despite the dip in ratings, network AMC has shown great faith in the show by renewing it for a third season.

The series was picked up by AMC in 2015 and aired its 10-episode first season on May 2016. Only two months since its premiere, the network renewed the series and ordered a 13-episode second season.

"Preacher" was developed for television by Rogen, showrunner Sam Catlin, and Evan Goldberg.
