Orange is the New Black season 2: Netflix series to follow 'House of Cards' success?

The 13-episode series of "Orange is the New Black" available on-demand on Netflix can pretty much be viewed in 24 hours for those hooked to the new series, which debuted earlier this month. After watching season 1, the next question in mind is when season 2 will be released.

The latest news for the series is that season 2 has already been renewed and Taryn Manning will be returning as inmate Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett as a regular.

Season 2 is set for a 2014 release, and the series is expected to follow in the footsteps of "House of Cards," which received a total of 9 Primetime Emmy Award nominations this year.

"Orange is the New Black" follows the success of "House of Cards," proving that Netflix is getting it right with its ad-free, subscription-only original series.

According to All Things Digital, "Orange is the New Black" surprisingly did better than any other show Netflix has released.

The new original show has received rave reviews, with some saying that it may be Netflix's best series to date, even topping "House of Cards" and "Arrested Development."

The actors on the show are not instantly recognizable, but their characters provide somewhat of a real insight into prison life. The series confronts the issues that inmates face such as race, class and mental-health issues.

The story revolves around Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Schilling, who is sent to federal prison for possessing a suitcase full of drug money for an international drug smuggler, which also happens to be her past lover. The series explores Chapman adjusting the hardships of prison life.

The series is based on a Piper Kerman's real-life memoir of the same name.
