America's Meryl Davis and Cheryl White won the first ever gold for the U.S. in ice-dancing at the 2014 Sochi Olympics after their dazzling performance today. They danced their nearly flawless performance to the music from "Sheherazade." After their dance, White told news reporters, "That in itself justified 17 years of hard work."
The pair won the free skate and earned a total of 195.52, leading them to victory, followed by Canadian rivals Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir in second place. Virtue and Moir were the Olympic champions in 2010. The bronze medal went to Russia's Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov.
Davis and White won by a mere 4.5 points ahead of Virtue and Moir and the pair finally realized their Olympic dream. In 2010, they won the silver medal in Vancouver, and have been training since to finally take gold.

The two talented skaters were first paired together since the age of 10 and have danced together for 17 years. It is no wonder that the two are so well synchronized and their chemistry and love on ice leads viewers to wonder whether the dancers are dating.
However, White explained his relationship with dance partner Davis to Yahoo.com: "As an ice dancer, we take our on-ice relationships so seriously, and that's really the way we like to go about it. Obviously we get a lot of questions about whether the two of us are dating, and that's a good thing, because that means we're doing our job out on the ice. Meryl and I are oftentimes trying to portray people who are in love. We've always been great friends, and we have a special relationship, but we've never been romantically involved."
White is currently dating figure skater Tanith Belbin. He has been dating the 29-year-old for years. Belbin herself is a five-time US Champion with partner Benjamin Agosto.
