In order to fix minor bugs and improve media content, Apple released an upgraded version of iTunes. The 12.7.2 edition was launched on Dec. 6 only hours after the release of Apple's macOS 10.13.2 High Sierra.
The new update prioritizes the main contents of the program like movies, music, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks. The minor updated version also provides improvement to the performance of other minor applications.
The 12.7.2 is an improved version of the 12.7.1 released in October after the major launch of the iTunes 12.7 update in September. The first minor update managed to address some bugs but not most of them. Apple is compacting or simplifying iTunes to promote easier access for users with the new update. The 12.7 update got rid of the applications iTunes U, Ringtones, Books on Windows, and Internet Radio.
The release of the new update for iTunes was planned to coincide with the release of the macOS 10.13.2. Several publications indicate that the release of the new macOS is accompanied by few stability and security improvements among Apple programs and functions.
The update was well received by users, and like with other updates, there are questions. One individual asked, "I'm still using 12.6.3 due to the iOS store. I was wondering if there will be a standalone app or am I stuck with 12.6.3?"
Apple has not responded to the question, and there are also no updates if an iOS store will be launched. Despite not having the iOS store function in the new update, iTunes itself will support iOS 11 device backups and syncing as a hardware management interface.
There are still no updates from Apple if the company is working on another major update in 2018. The iTunes 12.7.2 version can now be downloaded for free online.
