Apple's iPhone X became available for pre-orders Friday, and while its first batch sold out in minutes, Google was keen to take the opportunity to offer a $100 discount on the new Google Pixel 2 smartphone.

Best buy is offering a $100 discount on the Verizon variant of the Google Pixel 2, which requires a contract of two years. The deal is exclusive to that variant and does not extend to the bigger Pixel 2 XL.

The discount has actually been available for weeks, but with all the attention the iPhone X has been getting, it was a good time to remind people that they can get two Pixel 2 phones for almost the same price as one iPhone X.

The offer gives buyers a price cut on the monthly payments for the phone. The 64 GB model's price is cut from $27.08 to $22.91, while the 128 GB variant goes from $31.25 to $27.08.

The discount applies to all colors of the Pixel 2, which are available on the Best Buy website.

Recently, the Pixel XL was reported to be having issues with its display. A number of users have reported that the new phone's screen is getting burn-in, while others reported that the display is not as vibrant in comparison with other phones.

Google says that according to their investigation of the burin-in issue, the Pixel 2 XL's differential aging on the screen is in line with that of premium smartphones from other brands. Hence, it should not affect users' day-to-day experience with the product.

To provide users with peace of mind, the company has extended the warranty of all Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL to two years.

"We're very confident that the Pixel 2 delivers an exceptional smartphone experience," said Mario Queiroz, the vice president for Product Management of Google Hardware. "And to give users peace of mind, every Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will now come with a 2-year warranty worldwide."
