The highly-anticipated fighting video game "Dragon Ball FighterZ" will not be released until early next year, but publisher Bandai Namco has released a new trailer showing details of the title's campaign mode.

The single player mode follows Goku as he works to uncover the truth behind a new incursion by group of androids. In the video, Bulma interrogates Goku, who has just woken up from being unconscious and does not seem to know anyone – not even himself.

It is revealed that a group of super android fighters have arrived, and they are mimicking all the powerful warriors from the series. As a result, the warriors that they mimic fall unconscious.

In the campaign mode, the player controls Goku's character through three arcs of the story. Along the way, Goku will have the mimicked versions of his friends and allies in order to stop those responsible for the intrusion.

The trailer also shows Android 16 who is working closely with a new character called Android 21, a highly intelligent android who will serve as a new villain for the game.

It is impressive that the game developer Arc System Works was able to implement a narrative that would pit the protagonist Goku against pretty much everyone else. The cloning makes it plausible for Goku to fight his allies and closest friends without making them evil.

The trailer also highlights how anime-like the visuals of the game are. The lighting, colors, and even the blur effects in the game's animation captures the style of the animation series very well that it is easy to see how fans of the "Dragon Ball" animation series could fall in love with "Dragon Ball FighterZ." It will be interesting how the game will mesh the anime visual style with exciting and fast paced fighting action.

"Dragon Ball FighterZ" will be released on Jan. 26 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
